Mac4Lin ver.0.3 Released!

Mac4Lin version 0.3 Released!

24th October 2007

Mac4Lin is back! A new version, more changes, better looks and an overall more polished product. Please read changelog for information of changes in this version. It gives me immense pleasure to inform all that downloads have crossed 110 GB till date!

Mac4Lin now comes with a unified documentation in PDF format. Please go through this for illustrated installation instructions. Also some entities like GTK theme/Pidgin etc. now include two versions. Hence individual README files are only included if there is any need to convey release specific important information to the user which the generic documentation does not include. Read the README file for more details, in such cases.

With the release of GNOME 2.20, there have been issues reported with the Icon theme. Work is going on to make the theme compatible with GNOME 2.20 (found in OpenSUSE 10.3/Ubuntu 7.10 - Gusty etc.). There will be a separate release of Icon theme for GNOME 2.20. Users of this version can replace the original ver.0.3 Icon theme with the new one, which will be released soon after this release. GNOME version can be checked by clicking System Menu > About GNOME. Other components of this package are reported to work with GNOME 2.20. The installation of GTK Metacity theme and Cursors is almost same execpt that the Theme Manager in GNOME 2.20 has a new look.

Thanks to Victor Hugo Casals for the Safari skin, M.Lettner for the panel backgrounds, Calande for the font guide, Mitko for nm-applet icons, Vish for Grub and Buu700 for Usplash screens. I also thank all those who tested the pack and everyone who are directly or indirectly involved in this project.

Apply it, flaunt it, enjoy it!

Well, I'd say that it spoils the originality of Linux.

It would be great if you can avoid those logos of Apple but come up with a great premium theme. Great work man !!

Thanks tech_roach. Yeah even I did think about the Apple logo but considering that FlyaKiteOSX is doing fine I went ahead. I'll confirm again about that.

Yeah, I'm interested in making more themes for GTK/Emerald (not imitating). This was just a start.

Where is the PDF documentation?

Holy Molly. That's some impressive work there, dude. Can't wait to try this at home.
And I agree with tech_roach on the apple logo. The logo's should be left alone. It is after all linux underneath that face.

Hi Anirudh,
please read:
http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl.html
I saw that you released the GTK theme under "Free for Use". You must change it to GPL because it is a mod of my theme which is based on Lauri Taimilas theme (both released under GPL).

Taimillas theme: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/OSX-Tiger+theme?content=56577
My theme:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Leopard+look?content=60349

You have to credit all original authors in an appropriate manner. :P

I don't know if this is the same case with the other stuff you included in your pack, please make sure you don't violate the GPL.

@ghost
The PDF is on the mac4lin download page.

@kim
Thats pretty nice work there Kim. Had I known about it before I'd haf included it in my pack instead of taking the pains to create the theme.

The GTK theme has been created almost from scratch using only barebones (gtkrc file from one of the default themes).

If you observe the traffic lights (close, min, max buttons), color scheme, scroll bars, buttons, icons etc. you can see that there's little resemblance.

I've given credit to the original authors in the PDF guide if I've used their work.

Cheers :)

Hi!!
Great job!!
I'd followed the PDF documentation, but I can't find Aqua font anywhere.
Anirudh Acharya said…
I'm sorry the Aqua font was left out while archiving.

Anirudh,

I LOVE your mac4lin project -- But I have some concerns: Were the icons, fonts, wallpapers, etc. copied directly from a Mac OS X Leopard machine? If so there may be copyright and/or trademark issues. Please let me know if I should have these concerns.

Thank you.
